Barley:

Barley, which is produced in every region in Türkiye, ranks second after wheat in terms of planting area and production amount among field products. Therefore, barley, which grows in a shorter time, has created a significant export share in Türkiye. Barley is grown more in the Central Anatolia region.

Its lengths vary between 35 centimeters and 100 centimeters. Turkey has an important position in the world in barley production.

When we look at the last decade, it is seen that barley planting areas have changed between 2.4-3.0 million hectares (ha) and the production amount has changed between 6.3-8 million tons (TMO, 2020).

Barley is one of the leading cereals in terms of meeting the feed need in animal husbandry, its use in the malt industry, planting area and trade data. It is also known that it is consumed in small amounts as human food. When the production and planting area of ​​barley in the world are evaluated, the EU is first and Russia is second in recent years. According to USDA data, in the 2020/21 season compared to the previous season; barley consumption is expected to increase by 1.2%, production by 0.4%, and the area to be planted is expected to decrease by 0.6%. The decrease in production in Canada and Ukraine compared to the previous year will be effective in this decrease. The biggest reason for the increase in consumption is the growing animal husbandry. In the last two years, there has been a 6.7% increase in imports and a 2.6% increase in exports.
